Presented in excellent vintage condition is this exceptionally rare example of a 1980 Rolex Daytona 6263. The watch features a 37mm stainless steel case, black acrylic tachymeter insert bezel, black “Big Red” dial with tritium indices and is coupled to a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. Having been professionally tested for condition and accuracy, it’s deemed to be running well and is showing moderate signs of wear, consistent with its age.
For the discerning collector, this reference 6263 represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a legendary manual-wind “Oyster” chronograph with retail provenance. The matte black dial features the highly desirable “Big Red” typography, with the red ink remaining wonderfully vibrant and sharp against the pristine black background. The silver sub-counters remain crisp and free from the typical blemishes or drag marks often seen on examples from this era. All tritium lume plots are beautifully preserved and uniform, displaying a gorgeous, warm creamy patina that perfectly matches the hands. The case retains thick lugs with sharp, correct satin grain finishes on top and mirror-polished flanks. It is equipped with screw-down chronograph pushers and a Triplock winding crown, ensuring the muscular silhouette prized by vintage enthusiasts. The watch is mounted on its authentic stainless steel Oyster bracelet (ref. 78350) with correct 571 end links and a stamped clasp matching the era. Powering this superb timepiece is the legendary manual-wind Calibre 727, a chronometer-spec, high-beat Valjoux evolution that represents the absolute zenith of mechanical manual chronographs.
The watch is supplied with its original outer “seahorse” box, inner green presentation case, Rolex Cosmograph booklets, the exceptionally rare original handwritten George Attenborough & Son sales receipt dated 2 June 1980, and the matching original retailer tag detailing its original list and promotional selling price.
